RED SOX ADD VERSATILE INFIELDER AARON HILL Thursday, July 7, 2016
The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Aaron Hill and cash from the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder Wendell Rijo and pitcher Aaron Wilkerson.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox?
In Hill, the BoSox land a versatile infielder who may wind up in a platoon at third base with Travis Shaw. The latter has struggled against left-handed pitching this season, so a timeshare at the hot corner makes sense. Hill will also be able to fill in at second base for Dustin Pedroia, if need be. This was a good move by Boston.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers?
For the Brewers, this is a solid move for a team in full-blown rebuilding mode. Rijo is a very good prospect at age 20, and may already be considered Milwaukee's second baseman of the future. He is still a few seasons away, though. As for Wilkerson, he is a little bit older (27) but a decent starting pitching prospect.
Fantasy Impact
Rijo has excellent keeper-league value but don't expect him to reach the big leagues for at least one more season. Wilkerson could make his MLB debut later this season, but offers less fantasy appeal. As for Hill, he may get a boost with Boston but will probably see less playing time.
