The Orioles need starting pitching, so look for the 28-year-old Despaigne to compete for a spot in their starting rotation during spring training. The crafty Cuban can both start and relieve, so he'll be on the pitching staff one way or another.

The Padres decided to designate Despaigne for assignment recently, so it's no surprise he was traded away. In return, San Diego receives 19-year-old right-hander Cosme (who is still several years away from MLB). He does have potentiel, though.

Despaigne wasn't a great fantasy pitcher in the National League toiling half the time in spacious PETCO Park, so he becomes even more of a risk now that he's in the AL in Camden Yards (where home runs usually fly out of the park with regularity). Therefore, Despaigne should not be drafted this year. As for Cosme, he's several years away.
