ANGELS CONTINUE TO ADD OF DEPTH Tuesday, July 28, 2015
The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians for infielder Eric Stamets.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels?
Murphy is a streaky hitter who can play the outfield corners as well as serve as a DH, which adds to his overall value. Look for him to form a new platoon in left field with fellow newcomer Shane Victorino. He should also see time at designated hitter.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians?
For the Indians, this move is a sign that they'll be sellers this season. Murphy had been seeing regular action at both DH and left field, so now the team will look at other options there. Stamets is a decent infield prospect who excels defensively.
Fantasy Impact
If Murphy gets on a roll, look out! He can run hot and cold but should be worth a fantasy look down the stretch this season. Stamets doesn't carry much fantasy value as a middle infielder in the Cleveland organization (stuck behind SS Francisco Lindor and 2B Jason Kipnis).
