The Cubs are taking a flier here on a 27-year-old pitcher who was once a touted prospect. Injuries have curbed his development to some extent but he may have a chance to salvage his big-league career in Chicago in 2020.

The Athletics designated Cotton for assignment recently, so they did well to receive some cash in exchange for his services. Cotton made 29 starts for Oakland between 2016 and 2017 but struggled in the minors this past season.

Cotton has the stuff to be a fantasy factor when healthy, so he should be monitored in spring training to see how he is pitching. He should not be drafted in 2020 but might be able to help fantasy rosters in-season.
