METS MAKE A MOVE FOR KEON BROXTON Saturday, January 5, 2019
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Keon Broxton from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitchers Bobby Wahl and Adam Hill, plus infielder Felix Valerio.
What does it give the New York Mets?
In Broxton, the Mets acquire a solid defender (and another starting option) in center field. The 28-year-old Broxton is also a threat to steal bases, thanks to excellent speed. With New York, he will get a chance to compete with holdover Juan Lagares for the everyday job in center field. At worst, Broxton could serve a role as an excellent, late-inning defensive replacement. He is a decent addition here.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers?
The Brewers no longer had any use for Broxton with veteran Lorenzo Cain manning center field. So, Milwaukee shipped him out for three prospects. Hill could be the best of the three but is still a year or two away from reaching MLB. Wahl is a solid reliever who will compete for a bullpen job this spring. Valerio is a wild card, as the 18-year-old infielder has talent but is a long way away from big-league prominence.
Fantasy Impact
Broxton's fantasy stock improves after this trade, but he is not a great outfield option in most leagues (save for perhaps those with center-field specific positions). Hill and Valerio are off the fantasy radar for now but have long-range keeper value. Keep an eye on both players this year. As for Wahl, he is a hit-or-miss bullpen option. Wait until he wins a job in Milwaukee before adding him to fantasy league rosters.
