Trade Details
BALTIMORE MOVES BRITTON TO THE BRONX Tuesday, July 24, 2018
The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Zach Britton from the Baltimore Orioles for pitchers Dillon Tate, Josh Rogers and Cody Carroll.
What does it give the New York Yankees?
In Britton, the Yankees add another dominant hurler out of their vaunted bullpen. Formerly Baltimore's closer, Britton will likely be used in a setup role behind New York closer Aroldis Chapman. Few teams in MLB (if any) can match the Yankees' 'pen, which now features Chapman, Britton and Chasen Shreve from the left side, and David Robertson, Dellin Betances and Chad Green from the right.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles?
For the Orioles, this deal was about continuing the long, slow rebuilding process (even if it meant trading with the rival Yankees). Tate is the headliner here, as the 24-year-old right-hander was selected fourth overall in the 2015 MLB Draft. He will likely get a chance to start for Baltimore, possibly as early as later on in 2018. Rogers is a left-handed starter candidate, while Carroll should help the 'pen relatively soon.
Fantasy Impact
Britton's save opportunities should dry up in the Bronx, though he remains a very solid fantasy choice in leagues that count the 'holds' stat category. Tate, Rogers and Carroll should all get a boost moving to the Orioles organization, where opportunities should be less scarce. Tate is the only one who should be on the keeper radar, though.
