DODGERS ADD VETERAN OF GRANDERSON Saturday, August 19, 2017
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Curtis Granderson and cash from the New York Mets for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Dodgers are in the midst of an epic campaign, but it will not mean nearly as much if they fail (yet again) in the postseason. Therefore, they are trying to cover all of their tracks. Center field has been a problem area for them in 2017, so the hope is veteran Granderson can get hot down the stretch and replace the struggling Joc Pederson. Granderson can also play the outfield corners, so he is a versatile addition for LA.
What does it give the New York Mets?
The Mets have decided to let go of several serviceable, veteran regulars such as first baseman Lucas Duda (Tampa Bay), right-fielder Jay Bruce (Cleveland) and now Granderson. They will probably wind up with a marginable prospect in return, but this deal should also provide more playing time for outfielder Brandon Nimmo (and also Juan Lagares). Therefore, the Mets will use the end of '17 to audition outfielders.
Fantasy Impact
Granderson's fantasy gain is Pederson's loss, it would appear. While Granderson can also play the outfield corners, he is not expected to cut into the playing time of left-fielder Chris Taylor or right-fielder Yasiel Puig. Therefore, Pederson seems to be the clear odd man out. In New York, both Nimmo and Lagares gain a little fantasy value after the selling off of Granderson, though Nimmo is the one to watch here from a fantasy perspective.
