O'S GET VETERAN SWINGMAN VIDAL NUNO Sunday, February 19, 2017
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Vidal Nuno from the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Ryan Moseley.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles?
Nuno is a journeyman left-handed pitcher who can both start and relieve (although he mostly served as a reliever last season). He has been around the block and has enjoyed a bit of success in MLB, so this is a 'win now' move by the O's. Down the road, they might miss the solid talent of Moseley but Nuno can help them in '17.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
Right-hander Moseley was an eighth-round draft pick last year and pitched solidly in the lower minors in his pro debut last season. He has a pretty live arm and appears to have above-average talent, so the Dodgers obviously believed moving Nuno was worth picking Moseley up for their future.
Fantasy Impact
Nuno is much more valuable in reality than in fantasy baseball, so he can mostly be ignored even in deep drafts. The same goes for Moseley, though he may have some deep sleeper radar value for the future in the Dodgers' pitching-friendly organization.
