Axelrod announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he has retired from professional baseball.

Axelrod was reassigned to minor league camp Wednesday.

Axelrod signed a minor league deal with the Marlins that includes an invite to Spring Training, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.

Axelrod cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

The Reds designated Axelrod for assignment before Tuesday's game.

Axelrod was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Axelrod was rocked for eight runs on five hits (including three homers) and two walks over 1.2 innings in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.
