A good athlete, he had both home-run power and the speed to steal some bases. Also owned the arm strength to play in right field. Was quite raw in several aspects of the game, which included a propensity to chase pitches out of the strike zone. He also struggled with his positioning in the outfield. Injuries were a major factor for him, and ultimately led to an early retirement.
