Had excellent instincts for the catching position, as well as good mechanics and work ethic. Could hit for average at all levels. Was more athletic than most catchers. Sometimes, he did not display enough leadership on the field early on in his MLB career. Also lacked home-run power. Was also somewhat prone to injury, and his career was cut short by far too many concussions.
