| He was blessed with a rare mix of size, athleticism, power and baseball instincts. Was an elite fielder (when healthy) and excellent batter at the plate. Consistent, he hit for average and power. Could also draw walks. Lacked the speed to steal a lot of bases at the big-league level (though he was a solid base runner). Also struck out a little too much and was prone to a few prolonged slumps. Shoulder problems forced his move from the hot corner to first base fairly early in his MLB career. | |
