Aviles pinch hit for Dustin McGowan in the seventh inning Friday and hit a two-run home run in a 7-4 win over the Reds.

Aviles' contract was purchased from Triple-A New Orleans and he is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth Tuesday in Texas, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

The Marlins are expected to select Aviles' contract from Triple-A New Orleans prior to Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Aviles continues to struggle in spot duty with the Tigers this season. His has a slash line of .209/.266/.270 and is 2-for-14 with one triple in his last seven games.

Aviles is not in the starting lineup Wednesday as the Tigers take on the Mariners.
