Manager Carlos Mendoza said last weekend during the Mets' fan festival that he expects Acuna to have a "huge role" for the club next season, Peter Sblendorio of the New York Daily News reports. "Luisangel will get his," Mendoza said. "He's taking ground balls at third base, so he's part of that mix. He showed us he can play at this level, and he will continue to get opportunities."
Acuna is expected to compete for the Mets' third-base job during spring training, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Acuna went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Phillies.
Acuna went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two additional runs in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Nationals.
The Mets recalled Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.
Acuna is slashing .303/.344/.371 over his last 20 games for Triple-A Syracuse with eight steals in 10 attempts and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate.
Acuna was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Acuna will split his time in big-league camp this spring between shortstop and second base, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Acuna has a 13-game hitting streak going at Double-A Frisco and is hitting .411 with one home run, four steals and seven strikeouts over that stretch.
Acuna is hitting .302 with three home runs, 18 steals on 18 attempts and a 118 wRC+ in 40 games for Double-A Frisco.
