Thomas signed a contract with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball on Tuesday.

Thomas went 1-for-3 with a double in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday, pushing his average to .304 over the last eight games.

Thomas went 2-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, his major-league season debut.

The Athletics purchased Thomas' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Thomas sports a .317 average and 1.020 OPS across 117 plate appearances over 25 games at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Thomas isn't starting Thursday against the White Sox.

Thomas, recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, went 1-for-2 in a loss to the Nationals on Thursday before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.
