Duffey cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha by the Royals on Wednesday.

The Royals are expected to call up Duffey from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Duffey (back) has made two appearances out of Triple-A Omaha's bullpen so far this season, striking out four batters over three innings while allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks.

Duffey signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Royals.

The Cubs selected Duffey's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Duffey has exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract with the Cubs and will need to either be released or added to Chicago's 26-man active roster in the next 48 hours, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
