Gasol officially announced his retirement from basketball Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Gasol announced Thursday that he will play for Spanish club Girona for the remainder of the season before deciding whether to retire, the Associated Press reports.

Gasol was waived by the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

The Lakers agreed to trade Marc Gasol -- along with a 2024 second-round pick and cash -- to the Grizzlies for draft rights to Wang Zhelin, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Gasol confirmed Tuesday that he will return to the Lakers and play a 13th NBA season, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.

Gasol is expected to start in Game 6 against the Suns on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Gasol mustered 12 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal across 23 minutes off the bench in Sunday's loss to the Suns.

Gasol had three points (1-1 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and two steals in Thursday's Game 3 win over the Suns.

Gasol (finger) is active for Sunday's game against New Orleans.
