Los Angeles Dodgers NL West
Trade Details
DODGERS GET NORRIS TO REPLACE KERSHAW Thursday, June 30, 2016
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Bud Norris, outfielder Dian Toscano, a player to be named later and cash from the Atlanta Braves for pitchers Philip Pfeifer and Caleb Dirks.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Dodgers' starting rotation in 2016 has looked more like a hospital ward, and now ace Clayton Kershaw has joined Alex Wood, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson on the disabled list. Enter Norris, who could stick in the rotation for some time if he pitches well, since they are running out of bodies. The Dodgers also received a future asset, some cash and Cuban outfielder Toscano (who won't be much of a factor).
What does it give the Atlanta Braves?
For the Braves, dealing Norris makes sense for a team going nowhere this season. He was the main veteran in their rotation, so his spot will now go to someone younger and with more upside. Getting rid of Toscano's contract was also a motivating factor for Atlanta here. Dirks was originally with Atlanta, so they clearly liked him enough to get him back from LA. Pfeifer is a marginal prospect, at best, so this deal won't make a big impact.
Fantasy Impact
Norris gets a boost here because he will now be pitching half the time at Chavez Ravine (and because LA is so banged up in their rotation at present time). None of the others involved in this trade hold much in the way of fantasy stock.
