This is purely a depth move for the Rangers, since Adrian Beltre continues to be entrenched at the hot corner in Arlington (despite advanced age). Kubitza helps the organization as they can try power-hitting prospect Joey Gallo at other positions.

The Angels had designated Kubitza for assignment, so they received a little money for this transaction. They have been happy with veteran Yunel Escobar's play at third base this season, and they still hope Kaleb Cowart can eventually develop.

Kubitza's fantasy value won't get any better being behind Beltre in the Rangers organization.
