ANGELS GET STARTING PITCHER CHACIN Wednesday, May 11, 2016
The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Jhoulys Chacin from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Adam McCreery.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels?
The Angels were desperate to add any sort of starting pitching available, due to injuries to the likes of Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney, C.J. Wilson and Tyler Skaggs. Therefore, adding the 28-year-old Chacin makes sense at this time. He may help stop the bleeding a little.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves?
The Braves are going nowhere this season as the worst team in the National League, so they decided to move a veteran starter out and continue the rebuilding process. Williams Perez will replace Chacin in the rotation, while McCreery adds another raw, talented arm to the system.
Fantasy Impact
Chacin used to own great fantasy value but things have fallen on hard times lately. He still owns good strikeout ability, so moving to a better team coud help his numbers. Moving from the NL to the AL, however, may diminish whatever improvements come his way. As for McCreery, he should be on the keeper-league radar but is a long way away from the big leagues.
