Trade Details
PIRATES, BREWERS SWAP THREE PLAYERS Thursday, December 17, 2015
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Jason Rogers from the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Keon Broxton and pitcher Trey Supak.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates?
This is an interesting trade because both Rogers and Broxton may benefit greatly from the move. Rogers heads to Pittsburgh, where he will be given a shot at starting at first base (though there is competition with the likes of newcomer Jake Goebbert, veteran Michael Morse and prospect Josh Bell).
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers?
For Broxton, this trade may elevate him to a starting role in Milwaukee. He is likely to compete with Domingo Santana and others for the center field spot (barring any further acquisitions this off-season). Broxton may even find himself as the Brewers' leadoff man in '16. Supak has a good arm but is years away from contributing.
Fantasy Impact
Rogers may have actually been better off staying in Milwaukee, where there is less competition for the starting first base job. That said, he moves to a better team in Pittsburgh, so his fantasy stock may still rise significantly in 2016. Broxton should now be considered a fantasy sleeper heading into '16, as he should get a golden opportunity to start and make an impact with the Brew Crew. Supak is not on the fantasy radar yet, and needs more time to hone his craft.
