Trade Details
WHITE SOX ADD LAWRIE FOR THE HOT CORNER Wednesday, December 9, 2015
The Chicago White Sox acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie from the Oakland Athletics for pitchers J.B. Wendelken and Zack Erwin.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox?
Chicago was desperate to land a starting third baseman this off-season, so it makes sense that they were able to secure the 25-year-old Lawrie. He likely will never be elite but is a quality defender at the hot corner who will provide 15-20 home runs and decent production overall.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics?
The Athletics deemed Lawrie expendable following the reacquisition of veteran Jed Lowrie, who will likely play second base in Oakland (with Danny Valencia holding down the hot corner until hot-shot prospect Renato Nunez is deemed ready). Wendelken and Erwin are two more intriguing arms for the A's.
Fantasy Impact
This trade could help Lawrie, as his power numbers and batting average may improve getting away from O.co Coliseum in Oakland. His stock could be on the rise, as a result. He enters 2016 as a fantasy sleeper. Wendelken appears to be a future late-inning reliever to file away, while Erwin is several years away.
