DEPLETED DETROIT ADDS LHP RANDY WOLF Thursday, August 20, 2015
The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Randy Wolf from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers?
Detroit recently lost starters Anibal Sanchez (rotator cuff, 15-day DL) and Daniel Norris (oblique, 15-day DL), so they need bodies for the rotation. Enter Wolf, who is now 38 years old and heading to his 12th big-league organization. Clearly, he is a stop-gap measure for the Tigers at this time.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays?
The Blue Jays never felt the need to purchase Wolf's contract this season, so at least they are giving him a chance to return to the big leagues. Toronto made a big move by landing David Price earlier, and may get Marcus Stroman (knee surgery, 60-day DL) back in September. Their rotation appears set.
Fantasy Impact
Wolf was never a huge fantasy pitcher, so that obviously doesn't change now that he's almost in his 40's. Ignore him.
