CARDINALS ADD LEFTY BAT BRANDON MOSS Thursday, July 30, 2015
The St. Louis Cardinals acquired first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss from the Cleveland Indians for pitcher Rob Kaminsky.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals?
This was a necessary move by the Cardinals, who have both first baseman Matt Adams (60-day DL) and left-fielder Matt Holliday on the shelf due to quad injuries. Moss can play first base, left and right field and provides home-run power and run production (15 HR, 50 RBI this season).
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians?
Kaminsky is an excellent pitching prospect, so the Tribe did very well here in landing the 20-year-old southpaw. The 2013 first-round draft pick (No. 28 overall) has pitched very well at high Single-A Palm Beach this season (17 GS, 6-5, 2,09 ERA) and is now arguably Cleveland's top pitching prospect.
Fantasy Impact
Moss doesn't hit for a good average but he might feel invigorated in St. Louis down the stretch. Keep in mind he'll likely platoon with the Cardinals (while in Cleveland he was playing virtually every day). As for Kaminsky, he definitely should be on the fantasy radar as a future member of Cleveland's rotation.
