Boston's offense has struggled, surprisingly, so far in 2015 so they're seeking solutions right now. Peguero is a streaky outfielder who may get an opportunity to come off the bench at some point this season. For now, he adds organizational depth.

Peguero had been designated for assignment by the Rangers, largely to make room for the return of veteran outfielder Josh Hamilton, so at least Texas was able to get a little cash back for his services with this move. He wasn't a long-term solution, anyway.

Peguero is one of those 'quadruple-A' types, who seems too good for Triple-A baseball but not quite consistent (or talented) enough to play every day in Major League Baseball. That isn't likely to change now that he's with the Red Sox.
