SIX-PLAYER TRADE BETWEEN BRAVES & LA Wednesday, May 27, 2015
The Atlanta Braves acquired third baseman Juan Uribe and pitcher Chris Withrow from the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Alberto Callaspo and pitchers Eric Stults, Ian Thomas and Juan Jaime.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves?
The Braves get a bit older at third base with Uribe (36), but the hope is his leadership and streaky bat will come alive in Atlanta. Withrow, who underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this year, could be the key to this trade from a Braves standpoint if he can come all the way back after his elbow issues. He's only 26. Withrow is also dealing with a back issue, so he might not be a factor until 2016.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
For the Dodgers, they moved Uribe here so that the likes of Justin Turner and Alex Guerrero could continue to see regular playing time at the hot corner. Furthermore, LA also has Hector Olivera waiting in the wings. The Dodgers also received more pitching depth for their beleaguered staff in the likes of Stults, Thomas and Jaime, who are mostly short-term additions at this point.
Fantasy Impact
The big winner after this deal is probably Uribe, who is expected to see lots of action at third base in Atlanta--especially with Chris Johnson and Kelly Johnson currently on the disabled list. That said, Uribe is well past his prime. Withrow still has long-range keeper value as a potential closer but fantasy leaguers must practice patience with him. The other players in this trade offer little to no fantasy value.
