RED SOX ACQUIRE PITCHER CORNELY Wednesday, May 20, 2015
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher John Cornely from the Atlanta Braves for cash.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox?
The Red Sox are struggling to find consistent pitching of any kind so far in 2015, so adding Cornely at this time makes sense. Now 26, Cornely has a bit of upside as a late-inning reliever. For now, he'll add organizational bullpen depth.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves?
The Braves had designated Cornely for assignment recently, so at least they received a bit of cash for his services with this transaction. Cornely allowed four earned run on three hits (including a HR) in his only appearance with Atlanta.
Fantasy Impact
Cornely might become a late-inning option for the Red Sox down the road, but for now he'll have to be content with more time in Triple-A ball. He's off the fantasy radar until further notice.
