TEXAS LANDS LEFTY FREEMAN FROM ST. LOUIS Saturday, March 28, 2015
The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Sam Freeman from the St. Louis Cardinals for cash.
What does it give the Texas Rangers?
The Rangers don't have a quality lefty to get hitters out coming out of the bullpen, so they hope the 27-year-old Freeman can do the job. He's a Texas native with good stuff, but has lacked command from time to time. He was well worth the price to acquire, however.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals?
For the Cardinals, they had less need for a lefty reliever with the likes of Choate and Siegrist already in the bullpen, plus the possibility of depth starters such as Garcia Gonzales or Lyons joining that duo at some point in 2015. Therefore, Freeman was deemed expendable.
Fantasy Impact
Freeman could be a better source for holds in those fantasy leagues that include the stat category for relievers, and he should be higher up in the pecking order in Texas in general. He still probably won't see many save chances, though.
