DODGERS GET MORE OF HELP WITH HEISEY Tuesday, December 2, 2014
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Chris Heisey from the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Matt Magill.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
This is a swap of players who might not have been tendered a contract before the deadline to do so. Therefore, in the case of the Dodgers they get another outfielder for their roster. Heisey gives them more options. He could end up as the lesser end of a platoon with either Crawford or Ethier if the Dodgers wind up trading one of Kemp Crawford, Ethier or Puig this off-season.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds?
Like the Dodgers' outfield situation, it's crowded in the Reds' rotation. Magill simply provides another option in case Cincinnati decides to part with a starter such as Latos or Leake (they are far less likely to deal ace Cueto The Reds now have no viable option in left field, and there are also rumors that they may be willing to move right-fielder Bruce as well. Therefore, Cincy is far from done dealing.
Fantasy Impact
Heisey's fantasy value takes a dip here due to the presence of four quality, established outfielders ahead of him in LA (plus a strong platoon option in Slyke and one of the top prospects in baseball in Pederson As for Magill, he could sneak into the mix for the fifth starter job in Cincinnati if Latos or Leake is dealt, but his fantasy value remains quite pedestrian.
