Trade Details
DODGERS GET RELIEVER PERALTA FROM TB Friday, November 21, 2014
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitchers Joel Peralta and Adam Liberatore from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Dodgers made a mess of their expensive and reputable bullpen last season, so they're looking to upgrade smartly this time around. Peralta is a workhorse right-hander who used to pitch for new LA President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman in Tampa Bay. Liberatore is a potential situational lefty who enjoyed a very strong Triple-A season in Durham in 2014.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays?
In Dominguez, the Rays get a 24-year-old reliever who has far more upside than Peralta. In fact, he should be an ideal, cheap replacement for Peralta in the seventh or eighth inning for Tampa Bay in 2015. As for the 20-year-old Harris, he is a solid pitching prospect who should pitch in high Single-A ball this coming season. He is the potential jewel of this trade, but will need time.
Fantasy Impact
Peralta is always a candidate for holds in fantasy leagues that count that stat category, so that won't change now that he's with the Dodgers. Dominguez' value increases with his move to Tampa Bay, as he is likely to play a bigger role on his new team. Liberatore isn't on the fantasy radar until/unless he makes the Dodgers' bullpen and becomes an important situational lefty. As for Harris, he should be on the keeper-league radar but is several years away from becoming a fantasy factor.
