BENGALS, JAYS SWAP YOUNG TALENT Wednesday, November 12, 2014
The Detroit Tigers acquired outfielder Anthony Gose from the Toronto Blue Jays for infielder Devon Travis.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers?
This looks like a good move for both clubs, and shores up holes while dealing from a surplus in both teams' cases. For Detroit, Gose may emerge as the heir apparent to former center-fielder Jackson was traded to Seattle at the trade deadline this past season. The Tigers' incumbent, veteran Davis may be better suited to a platoon role. Therefore, expect Gose and Davis to compete for at-bats throughout 2015. Gose is younger and has more upside, though.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays?
In Toronto's case, they were able to move Gose because of the emergence of Pompey who now becomes the clear favorite to win the center field job in '15. The Blue Jays' biggest weakness (arguably) was at second base, so Travis might emerge as the starter at some point next season. He is a good prospect, but may need a little more seasoning. This is a good deal for both sides and fills needs on both ends.
Fantasy Impact
Gose gets a boost following his move to Motown, while Davis sees his fantasy stock dip a bit. However the biggest winner here is Travis, who is no longer blocked by Kinsler and is now a potential AL Rookie of the Year candidate with the Jays.
