KRIS BRYANT BROUGHT IN BY THE GIANTS! Friday, July 30, 2021
The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant from the Chicago Cubs for outfielder Alexander Canario and pitcher Caleb Kilian.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants?
The Giants wound up winning the Bryant sweepstakes, and for good reason. Bryant can play several positions, which is an added bonus for this all-star performer. With both Brandon Belt (1B) and Evan Longoria (3B) currently injured, Bryant is expected to begin his Giants career in the infield. When/if the team is completely healthy, he may shift to the outfield.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs?
The Cubs had a fantastic infield led by Anthony Rizzo (1B), Javier Baez (SS) and Bryant (3B) once upon a time, but now all three are gone! Canario is a good outfield prospect (one of many acquired by Chicago at the deadline) and Kilian is also a solid pitching prospect. Bryant was probably going to leave as a free agent in the off-season, so the two-player package is pretty good under those circumstances.
Fantasy Impact
Bryant should continue to be a great fantasy performer, regardless of his team or the position he plays. Canario and Kilian should be on the fantasy keeper radar, and may have a speedier development path with the Cubs.
