With veteran Yadier Molina and young Andrew Knizner ahead of him on the depth chart, Sanchez is likely to spend 2021 as the Cardinals' third-string catcher. Whether St. Louis even carries three receivers this season is a question mark at this time.

The Mets had designated Sanchez for assignment recently, so they did well to at least get back some cash in this transaction. New York will move forward with James McCann and Tomas Nido as the two main catchers in '21.

There is no fantasy value here, as Sanchez is basically a depth catcher.
