MYCHAL GIVENS GOES TO THE ROCKIES Sunday, August 30, 2020
The Colorado Rockies acquired pitcher Mychal Givens from the Baltimore Orioles for infielders Terrin Vavra and Tyler Nevin, and a player to be named later.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies?
In Givens, the Rockies add a quality reliever to help their bullpen (which cannot count on injured right-handers Scott Oberg and Wade Davis at present time). The 30-year-old Givens has flown under the radar for several years because Baltimore was not a contender.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles?
The Orioles did well to add three future assets for one reliever...albeit their best one. Vavra has a chance to become Baltimore's starting shortstop down the road, while Nevin has some upside as a potential first baseman. He can also play at third base but struggles defensively.
Fantasy Impact
Givens should at the very least receive several hold chances in Denver, with the potential for saves as well. If he pitches as well in Colorado as he has for Baltimore over the years, Givens may become the permanent closer for the Rockies. Vavra might be worth picking up in deeper keeper formats, while Nevin should also be on the keeper radar at this time.
