TAMPA BAY TRADES FOR BRIAN O'GRADY Wednesday, November 27, 2019
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired infielder/outfielder Brian O'Grady from the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays?
In O'Grady, the Rays get a 27-year-old left-handed hitter who can play all over the outfield and also first base. He saw his first taste of MLB last season on the heels of a breakout campaign at Triple-A Louisville. He should compete for a roster spot in spring training with the Rays and he might surprise many.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds?
The Reds obviously did not see enough potential in O'Grady, despite his 2019 breakthrough season, so they decided to trade him for a future asset and some cash. Time will tell if this was the wise decision but the Reds do have several other left-handed batters in the outfield and at first base.
Fantasy Impact
Keep an eye on O'Grady in spring training with Tampa Bay to see if he can earn regular playing time at the start of 2020. He has some appeal as an in-season fantasy pickup but he should not be drafted in most leagues.
