The Giants hope Barrett can revert back to his 2016 form while with Arizona. He has struggled the past two seasons but has the type of arm that is worth another chance.

The Diamondbacks recently designated Barrett for assignment, so they did well to at least get back some cash for his services. He only made 35 appearances for Arizona since '16.

Barrett has the stuff to eventually become a central figure in San Francisco's bullpen, but his lack of consistency is worrisome. For now, it is wise to take a wait-and-see approach with him.
