MARINERS MOVE COLOME FOR CATCHER NARVAEZ Friday, November 30, 2018
The Chicago White Sox acquired pitcher Alex Colome from the Seattle Mariners for catcher Omar Narvaez.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox?
In Colome, the White Sox land a 29-year-old right-hander with a power arm. He saved 12 games for Seattle in 2018 and figures to at least share closing duties with Nate Jones in Chicago next season. Colome is a solid addition to the Pale Hose and could make an impact at the end of the team's bullpen.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners?
Seattle has already dealt former starting catcher Mike Zunino to Tampa Bay this off-season, so they needed a new No. 1 backstop. Enter Narvaez, who did well in 280 at-bats with the White Sox in 2018 (.275 BA, 9 HR, 30 RBI). Narvaez figures to be the No. 1 catcher for the Mariners moving forward.
Fantasy Impact
Narvaez will get every opportunity to shine in Seattle for a franchise in complete rebuilding mode, so his fantasy prospects are looking up. However, do not overrate him on draft day (there should be better, more established options available instead of Narvaez). As for Colome, he is a must-draft in league formats that count the holds category. In saves leagues, he should still get a few opportunities even if Jones beats him out for the closer job.
