Trade Details
CHISOX SNARE RELIEVER FRARE FROM YANKEES Sunday, July 29, 2018
The Chicago White Sox acquired pitcher Caleb Frare from the New York Yankees for international bonus pool money in 2018-19.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox?
Chicago's braintrust is stockpiling talented pitchers as the focus of its rebuild, and Frare definitely has some talent. He is a fairly dominant strikeout reliever from the left side, and he's currently pitching at the Triple-A level. Players with that profile don't grow on trees, which is perhaps why the White Sox give up a significant amount of international signing bonus pool money here. That said, it's a somewhat hefty price for an unproven reliever.
What does it give the New York Yankees?
The Yankees recently added veteran late-inning reliever Zach Britton to their bullpen, and they're in 'win-now' mode--so Frare wasn't likely to help them much the rest of this season. The added $1.5 million in international bonus pool money will give the Yankees more assets to continue building their always-impressive farm system with international players.
Fantasy Impact
Unless Frare dominates at Triple-A down the stretch, it will be surprising to see him called up for a significant role with the ChiSox this season. With that in mind, this trade has little to no fantasy impact for single-season fantasy leagues. In deep keeper leagues though, do keep Frare on the reliever radar.
