DODGERS DEAL FOR BULLPEN HELP Wednesday, July 4, 2018
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitchers Dylan Floro and Zach Neal, and international bonus pool money in 2018-19 from the Cincinnati Reds for pitchers James Marinan and Aneurys Zabala.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Dodgers felt the need to acquire some help for the bullpen, adding both Floro and Neal to the mix. The 27-year-old Floro was enjoying a strong first half in Cincinnati and should help LA as a middle reliever. Neal had been toiling at Triple-A Louisville for the Reds but will pitch in MLB for LA (at least for the time being). This deal also includes pool space for the Dodgers' international signing seasoning targets.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds?
In exchange for two bullpen arms and international signing slot money, the Reds received quite a bit in return here. Marinan is a 19-year-old right-hander with a bright future. He has a great build and dominant qualities. He is pitching in Rookie ball, so he is a long way from helping the Reds. Zabala is a little more advanced but is more of a reliever candidate. This was a good deal for the rebuilding Reds.
Fantasy Impact
None of the four players in this trade have immediate fantasy value, and neither Floro nor Neal is expected to make an impact in the Dodgers bullpen. Zabala may have future value as a reliever, but the future watch is squarely on Marinan above all. He should be on the fantasy radar and may have some keeper value already.
