In Font, the A's are taking a flier on his power arm. Font has had trouble commanding his pitches in MLB, but perhaps a change of scenery will help him fully develop his arsenal. He will join Oakland immediately.

The Dodgers had recently designated Font for assignment, so they did well to get a pitcher in return for his services. Salow is a decent left-hander who may have a future as a situational lefty in the big leagues.

Font is a pitcher to follow in fantasy circles because of his ability to strike batters out. That said, he should not be picked up immediately. Instead, wait and see if Font becomes a starter or late-inning reliever in Oakland. As for Salow, his value as a situational left-hander is minimal for fantasy purposes.
