CHISOX PRY PITCHER PINTO FROM THE PHILLIES Wednesday, March 28, 2018
The Chicago White Sox acquired pitcher Ricardo Pinto from the Philadelphia Phillies for international bonus pool money in 2017-18.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox?
Pinto has progressed fairly quickly through the minors, and he reached the Phillies last season for a stint (although he struggled mightily, posting a 7.89 ERA). With Chicago leaning heavily on youth this season, it would not be surprising if Pinto gets a call-up from the minors. He can be used in a variety of roles, so he might become a valuable piece of the puzzle sooner rather than later for the ChiSox.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies?
Pinto showed good progress in Philadelphia's system but he is not an overpowering strikeout pitcher and he struggled in spring training (registering a 6.75 ERA in 4.0 innings pitched) this year. The Phillies have a fairly young and unproven core, and the international bonus pool money will help with the ongoing rebuild.
Fantasy Impact
Even if Pinto gets a call-up in the coming campaign he is not the type to put up big strikeout stats, and he additionally does not have a clear role at the major league level. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats until he gets the call and starts producing.
