BREWERS REEL IN YELICH FROM THE FISH Thursday, January 25, 2018
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired outfielder Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins for outfielder Lewis Brinson, infielder Isan Diaz, outfielder Monte Harrison and pitcher Jordan Yamamoto.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers?
This is a huge addition for the Brewers, who will probably use Yelich in center field between veteran slugger Ryan Braun and talented right-fielder Domingo Santana. Yelich's left-handed bat will work nicely in towards the top of the Milwaukee lineup. He has been a great player for Miami, but there is a chance he gets even better surrounded by greater talent in Milwaukee (and playing half the time in a far more home-run-friendly park). This is a major coup for the Brew Crew.
What does it give the Miami Marlins?
Oy, Miami! Once again, the Marlins are dumping a quality everyday player. First, they moved home-run king Giancarlo Stanton to the Yankees for a big haul and now it is Yelich's turn to go for four young assets. Brinson is a quality defensive center-fielder who will probably replace Yelich in the lineup (though he won't hit like Yelich). Diaz could already be deemed Miami's second baseman of the future, while Harrison and Yamamoto are also solid prospects (albeit a little further away).
Fantasy Impact
Yelich is the big winner after this deal, but all five names traded here should benefit to some degree after the move. Brinson has the tools for fantasy success (but needs to put it all together), while Diaz has a lot of home-run power for a middle infield prospect. Also, Harrison and Yamamoto should now be squarely on the fantasy radar for the future. The future is all the Marlins have now.
