The Padres have had trouble finding steady production from the shortstop position in recent years, so they did well here to add the solid Galvis (a switch-hitting shortstop who hit 12 HR, with 61 RBI and 14 SB in all 162 G last season). Galvis is also still young at only 28 years old.

The Phillies decided to move their starting shortstop because of the presence of prospect J.P. Crawford, who offers more power and overall batting potential than Galvis (but not as much defensive steadiness). In De Los Santos, the Phils add a quality right-handed pitching prospect.

Galvis has two strikes against him in terms of his fantasy value moving forward: he is moving from a great hitters' park in Philadelphia to a great pitchers' park in San Diego, and the presence of top shortstop prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. could make his stay rather brief in Southern California. Obviously, the big winner in this deal is Crawford, who now becomes the new starter at short for Philadelphia. De Los Santos should be on the fantasy radar now as a solid pitching prospect, though his overall value takes a bit of a hit now that he will be playing (eventually) at Citizens Bank Park in Philly instead of PETCO Park in San Diego.
