The Mariners continue to search for help in the bullpen, so Armstrong is not a bad gamble at this point. The 27-year-old right-hander made 21 appearances for Cleveland last season and flashed decent potential. He should compete for a job in middle relief in 2018.

The Indians had to keep Armstrong on their 25-man roster in 2018, since he is now out of options. Therefore, the team felt comfortable with the rest of their bullpen situation to let Armstrong go. In exchange, Cleveland gets a little more money for international signings.

Armstrong could be a decent source of holds in leagues that use that stat category, but he must first make the Mariners out of spring training. Therefore, take a wait-and-see approach with him until he cracks the 25-man roster.
