DODGERS ADD LEFT-HANDER TONY CINGRANI Monday, July 31, 2017
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Tony Cingrani from the Cincinnati Reds for infielder/outfielder Scott Van Slyke and catcher/infielder Hendrik Clementina.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Dodgers added Cingrani to Tony Watson as a pair of quality left-handed setup men just prior to the July 31 trade deadline. Cingrani is a hard thrower who has struggled with the Reds this season, but should be a lot better at Chavez Ravine. Look for Cingrani to compete with Watson for the eighth-inning role.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds?
Clementina is clearly the key piece in the deal from the Reds' perspective, since he is a 20-year-old catcher who is a good athlete and quality hitter. The main issue will be whether he remains behind the plate, long term. If he does, Clementina might be a steal for Cincinnati. Van Slyke is mostly a versatile bench player.
Fantasy Impact
Cingrani's stock rises significantly after a move to the Dodgers. He was probably available in a lot of leagues before the deal, so go snap him up quickly. Clementina should now be on the fantasy radar. Keep an eye on him, and make sure he sticks as a catcher before making a keeper-league commitment to him. Van Slyke's value is pretty low.
