DULIN ADDS FIRST BASE DEPTH FOR CHISOX Sunday, March 19, 2017
The Chicago White Sox acquired first baseman Brandon Dulin from the Kansas City Royals for cash.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox?
Dulin has solid power for a first base prospect and he's a lefty bat, qualities making him appealing to a White Sox team currently rebuilding with youth. Dulin isn't ready for prime time yet, but with major league starter Jose Abreu now 30 years old, Dulin provides solid organizational depth at first base. Despite the acquisitions or several top prospects this off-season, the ChiSox don't have many top first base prospects behind Abreu.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals?
The Royals are set at first base with star Eric Hosmer, and they have solid corner infield prospects on the way in Hunter Dozier and Ryan O'Hearn. All that talent is likely what made Dulin expendable, especially since he hasn't shown major progress at the minor league level.
Fantasy Impact
Dulin isn't considered a top prospect (in part because he lacks plate discipline), but as mentioned he's a lefty bat with some power. That makes him at least radar-worthy in deeper keeper leagues, if only because the White Sox don't have much depth at first base behind Jose Abreu (and it won't be a shocker if Abreu is dealt in the next few seasons as part of the youth movement). Dulin's exit has no fantasy fallout on the Royals side of the swap.
