The Marlins are taking a flier on the talented, inconsistent Gonzalez. He has obvious talent and can be used in a variety of roles in Major League Baseball, so he has a good shot at breaking camp with the big-league squad after spring training.

The Phillies recently designated Gonzalez for assignment, so at least they were able to parlay his talents into a future asset. He was used as a reliever in Philadelphia last season, after failing to impress as a starter. Philly will move on.

Look for Gonzalez to get more opportunities in MLB with the Fish, who are still reeling following the unexpected death of staff ace Jose Fernandez. That said, Gonzalez is more likely to wind up pitching in relief for Miami in 2017. His fantasy value remains the same as it was in Philadelphia (he is a dark horse).
