BREWERS ADD C BANDY IN A 3-PLAYER SWAP Tuesday, December 13, 2016
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired catcher Jett Bandy from the Los Angeles Angels for catcher Martin Maldonado and pitcher Drew Gagnon.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers?
Bandy adds another young catcher to the Brewers stables, joining Andrew Susac and Manny Pina (who is a little older at 29). The 26-year-old Bandy might have the most upside, but expect the three inexperienced receivers to compete for two jobs during spring training next year.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels?
The Angels decided to move Bandy out, which likely gives Carlos Perez a leg up on the starting catcher role for 2017. He will probably share time with Maldonado, a journeyman who is a decent stopgap measure. Gagnon is a 26-year-old reliever who has a bit of upside, but not a lot.
Fantasy Impact
This is a good deal for Perez, most of all. Bandy will share time in his new home, just as he was going to share time with the Angels. The biggest loser in terms of playing time (and, ultimately, fantasy value) may be Susac (who must now battle Bandy for at-bats). Gagnon is not ready for the fantasy radar.
