VERRETT MOVES ON TO THE ORIOLES Wednesday, November 30, 2016
The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Logan Verrett from the New York Mets for cash.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles?
This could turn out to be a very shrewd move by the Orioles, who have had issues with their starting rotation for a little while now. Verrett was used mostly out of the bullpen with the Mets but has a chance to win a starting job out of spring training next year. The 26-year-old Verrett may still have some untapped upside.
What does it give the New York Mets?
With the Mets, Verrett was never able to win a permanent spot in their vaunted rotation because of the presence of arms such as Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Steven Matz. Therefore, the baseball club did Verrett a favor by sending him to Baltimore for a little cash. New York has enough pitching.
Fantasy Impact
After this deal, Verrett moves into the fantasy dark-horse category if he is able to secure a spot in Baltimore's rotation out of spring training. At worst, he will probably be used as a swingman for the Orioles. His fantasy prospects are suddenly looking up.
