MIAMI MAKES ANOTHER MOVE, GETS WADE BACK Thursday, February 8, 2018
The Miami Heat acquired guard Dwyane Wade from the Cleveland Cavaliers for a protected second-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Miami Heat?
The Heat is (somewhat surprisingly) still in the East playoff race, and it's clear Miami brass is intent on getting into the postseason. Re-enter Wade, the longtime member of the organization who can provide veteran leadership and playmaking to the cause. His contract is very affordable, and expires after this season (so this is a low-risk, high-reward move by the Heat).
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers?
This is a curious one for the Cavaliers. Wade had an inexpensive expiring contract and is one of the closest friends on the planet with LeBron James, so on the surface this might have the potential to backfire on Cleveland management. That said, clearly the Cavs decided moving Wade is best for their youth movement and overhauled clubhouse chemistry (and they save some money in the process).
Fantasy Impact
Wade wasn't playing big minutes for the Cavaliers and he isn't like to do so for the Heat, so there is little fantasy impact as a result of this deal. That said, Wade might see a slight boost in playing time with Miami, so at least keep him on the fantasy radar the rest of this season.
